What is DB2?
DB2 is the industry leading data server from IBM® that can manage both relational and XML data natively. Storing and manipulating XML natively using DB2’s pureXML(TM) technology can considerably improve the performance and maintenance of your Web 2.0 and SOA applications. DB2’s pureXML is included in DB2 Express-C, the free version of DB2. The DB2 on Campus educational sessions include pureXML demos that use SOA, Web 2.0 concepts, Ruby on Rails, and PHP with DB2 Express-C. The figure below provides an overview about DB2 that shows the use of SQL/XML and XQuery to access relational and XML data.
